The Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights will consider the appeal of human rights defenders regarding preparation for election of the Ombudsman

The meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights, National Minorities and International Relations will be held on February 8.

The Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights, National Minorities and International Relations has included the question of the appeal of human rights NGOs regarding preparation for election of a candidate for the post of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the agenda of the next meeting of the Committee and discussion of this issue with the participation of the human rights defenders.

The meeting of the Committee will be held on Wednesday, February 8, at 14:30. Apart from this question, the agenda of the meeting includes six topics. Representatives of media are invited to highlight the event.

We recall that on April 27, 2017, the term of the Commissioner Valeria Lutkovska expires. According to that date, the process of electing the new Ombudsman will begin. In this appeal, human rights defenders’ community highlights the importance of civic participation in the discussion and selection of a candidate to ensure openness and transparency.
